Another magazine opens up its archives
Not exactly an academic title, but Sports Illustrated is now opening up its archives online for free. This is a worthwhile read even if you don't care about Sports Illustrated--some interesting notes on what publishers of prominent magazines are thinking about getting their archives open. Expect to see more and more of this in the future.

Most interesting. Sports Illustrated, NY Times, Newsweek are all opening up their archives, trying to make money off advertising instead of subscriptions. This makes sense to me as a news consumer. Those sites that want me to subscribe -- Salon, NY Times columnists until recently, Slate a long time ago -- just make me look elsewhere. If this trend were to go far enough, it would eat into the aggregator business model of Ebsco, Proquest, and Gale.
