Just had a discussion with one of our student technology assistants about printing from the lending laptops.
Apparently they work with WolfCopy directly (should be able to send jobs to the black-white printer), but not directly with Print Quota. To use Print Quota, you have to use the WolfPrint method to send .txt, .pdf. or .ps files over the Internet.
Actually, I heard there's a bug with the laptops and WolfCopy at the moment, but that it should be fixed very soon.
Josh, maybe how to print from the laptops should be added to our [very helpful] How to Print guide?

Enzyme assignment tip
Just helped a patron who was looking up basic information for a particular enzyme (similar to the chemistry assignment). The faculty member had suggested looking in the 'Sigma catalog', but we couldn't figure out what specific resource that might be. She had already tried the 'Sigma-Aldrich' database in the catalog and was unable to locate her enzyme there.
I suggested that she try the Springer handbook of enzymes in the reference collection in the Learning Commons (QP601 .E5158 2005). She later came back and said it was a great resource and had all the information necessary for the assignment.
Sounds like the whole class will be doing this for different enzymes, so this resource may be helpful to other students, as well.
Josh might be able to help us figure out what the 'Sigma catalog' is?

LC design
In my time on the desk today I got several questions about who designed the look of the space. Any answer appropriate beyond "Susan Nutter"?
Finding an English translation?
In answering a question for someone looking for a translation, I gave them the tips summarized here:

I'm curious if anyone has any other tips (especially in fields other than sciences). Once I get some feedback to ensure this list is a good reflection of collective librarian tips, I'll put it into an FAQ.
Thanks for your help.

Learning Commons notes, thoughts, observations
Leave comments on this post as you observe things in the Learning Commons. When we start staffing the desk next week, this is the place to note things that need to be fixed, figured out, what kind of questions you're getting, what infrastructure you need out there that's not there yet, what's working great and not so great, and just your thoughts on this whole fun, purple and green chaos.

Reference Desk at Circ / Reserves this week
So what's the nitty gritty that I'm forgetting? I'm going to install Velaro & GAIM, get the stat sheet over there, the phone will need to go back to be recharged every once in a while, and uh, help me remember what else we need to remember in our new temporary location.
